Tulsi, commonly called “sacred” or “holy basil,” Tulsi is a principle herb of Ayurveda, India’s ancient holistic health system. Tulsi is a powerful adaptogen.  In other words it helps the body to resist stress. It is also a natural sleep aid. Few herbs have gained such widespread recognition for their health giving properties.  If you haven’t tried the delicious Tulsi yet, now is the time to give it a go. You may well experience improved mental and physical health.

Drinking Chamomile tea may have a calming effect while promoting sleep and reducing anxiety. Chamomile tea is made from the dried flowers of either the German or Roman chamomile plant. To make chamomile tea pour 1 cup water over 3 tbsp. of dried chamomile, then allowing the mixture to steep for 15 minutes. To treat anxiety or digestion problems, drinking the tea four times a day may help soothe your condition, if your doctor approves. It is the perfect relaxing beverage and is completely caffeine-free.

Rooibos (Red Bush) is native to South Africa. Its delicately sweet flavour and high anti-oxidant content has furthered its popularity amongst avid tea drinkers. Rooibos is a wonderfully soothing caffeine-free option.
Peppermint tea is an herbal tea made from the dried leaves of the peppermint plant and has a fresh and slightly sweet flavor. Peppermint tea may help ease an upset stomach and may help break up congestion in the chest or nasal passages. Peppermint tea does not contain any caffeine, but avoid it if you are pregnant or have gastroesophageal reflux disease.

Ginger tea is made from the ginger root, which may help reduce symptoms of an upset stomach and nausea. Ginger tea is naturally caffeine-free. You can make your own ginger tea by grating a small piece of ginger root and placing it in a cup of boiling water. Allow the mixture to sit for several minutes before drinking.

Valerian a tall, flowering grassland plant — may reduce the amount of time it takes to fall asleep and help you sleep better. Of the many valerian species, only the carefully processed roots of the most widely studied species, Valeriana officinalis, are known to contain the most effective mix of active compounds. Always check the box for the amount the tea contains. I usually drink a cup before bed.

What about my regular tea?

True tea is made from the leaves of an Asian evergreen known as Camellia sinensis. White tea, green tea, oolong tea, and black tea all come from this plant, and all contain caffeine. Herbal teas made from other, unrelated plants and do not have any caffeine. One exception is Yerba Maté, an herbal tea that does contain caffeine. The following table shows an estimate of caffeine levels in each:
